Now open: Thirty-One Jane, Charlotte’s newest boutique carrying cool-girl brands like Ganni and Proenza - Axios Charlotte

Background: Susan Hamilton and Eloise Hamilton Reeves started taking mother-daughter trips to New York City 15 years ago, where they’d rummage the racks at Century 21 and the Brooklyn Flea Market. They both loved the thrill of the hunt and looked forward to shopping in new cities. Though this is their first foray into retail, it’s not so surprising Thirty-One Jane is where their dreams took them.

The space: Reeves and Hamilton wanted Thirty-One Jane to feel like a West Village apartment, so the boutique has a cushy lounge area and warm tones, cooly contrasted with steel beams and concrete floors.

Style: You’ll find some of the long dresses that are common in Charlotte, but they’ll be more reminiscent of New York street style with a utilitarian edge.

Proenza Schouler White Label Matte Crepe Strap Dress ($495)

Prices: Most clothing items and accessories fall in the $200-$500 range, but they carry some T-shirts and gift-able home goods like coffee table books and colorful glass blown vases for well under $100.

The address is 908 Pecan Ave. Hours are 11am-6pm Tuesday-Friday; 11am-5pm Saturday; and noon-4pm Sunday.

Proenza Schouler White Label Matte Crepe Strap Dress ($650). This is one of the most expensive pieces in the store but could easily be dressed up or down.

The Proenza dress has pockets! You could get a lot of mileage out of this dress.

Anine Bing Bar Silk Skirt ($299) paired with Ganni Brushed Alpaca Wrap Blouse ($375). It pained me to leave this silk skirt behind — the fit is beautiful if you’re a curvier girl looking for a slip. My birthday is soon if anyone wants to surprise me with it!
